Kirstin is a native of California. She has two BFA's...one in
Art and another in Classical Archaeology from San Francisco State
University. (both tend to come in handy in the mosaic industry!!!)
Coming from a long line of tile smiths and setters, she began
learning the trade at an early age. Throughout the years her studies
and hands-on training have helped to develop her dynamic mosaic technique.
Kirstin's artistic abilities give the mosaics a uniqueness only a
true artist can bring! She began working with the medium in 1993, when she built the dragon kitchen backsplash. Then, in 1998 she went on to make the star floor and the mermaid fountain piece. This large-scale installation work is the life-blood of her inspiration. But it wasn't until the year 2001 that the Mosaic Girls were born. Lori Watley, a good friend of Kirstin's, encouraged her to start their own mosaic business. The girls got off to a great start, and made some beautiful things. The bulk of the work on this site is the result of the joint combination of the two. Things happen, though and Kirstin is once again alone in her endeavours. Grateful for the head start ignited by Lori, slightly sad to work alone, but optimistic and ready for anything, she forges on! In addition to making her own mosaic art for the business and for herself, she teaches workshops to high school art classes in the San Diego area. She is also skilled in many other art mediums, including photography, painting and drawing, printmaking, beadwork, ceramics, stained glass, web and graphic design. Currently Kirstin is living in Coronado, California (that's in San Diego). She spent the spring of 2002 working as an intern teaching advanced art students at Coronado High School. She also conceived and created a large scale public mosaic with Kari Cross, a high school senior at Coronado. With the help of community and students, they worked their way through city council and won! The success of the mosaic led to another large scale piece, this time being in the Coronado Cays, a community on the Silver Strand. If you're looking for public mosaics, come to Coronado! The first is in Spreckles Park and the other at the Tennis Court in Coronado's Cays. Mosaics are definitely in Kirstin's future. However, for a short while, she will be unavailable. In mid-September, she ships off to Ghana, Africa for 2 years Peace Corps service. However, don't hesitate to write, as she will have e-mail....sometimes, and few and far between. She will return! She will do more mosaics!!!!

While deeply involved
in mosaic making, Kirstin is taking a hiatus from the medium for
a two year stint in the Peace Corps starting in mid September 2002.
However, while in Ghana (that's West Africa), she will be checking
her e-mail and maintaing contact with individuals here. Don't hesitate
to write, you will hear back (at least eventually!).
